Today marks the first day of spring — and with it, just 64 days until the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial beginning of summer. After the winter we’ve had out East, there are welcome glimmers of warmth and the promise of long days and summer romance ahead. There’s a noticeable shift: a spring in people’s step, weekend plans beginning to take shape in group chats, summer wardrobes moving from “In Cart” to “Purchased,” and coats and gloves stored away until next season. By the weekend, towns grow livelier, traffic thickens along Montauk Highway, and the familiar rhythm of Hamptons summer living begins its gradual return.
Here in the Hamptons, most town beaches open on Memorial Day Weekend; first for weekend swimming, then fully by mid-June through Labor Day. In anticipation of the season ahead, this list brings together photographs from a handful of its most frequented beaches. Each image is defined by the beach’s distinct character and enduring charm, offering not just a portrait of place, but of the lifestyle that unfolds along its coastline.
