Behind the Scenes of Creating a GH Framed Piece

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, one of my brothers asked me to walk him through the process of creating his most recent order—a large oak frame of Tacking Towards the Mark to be paired with Yacht Club Regatta for his new home. Framing is an art in itself, with many thoughtful steps behind the scenes. Here’s a look at how each piece comes together.

Print

Every Grace Hinchen photograph is printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin, a 300gsm natural white paper chosen for its subtle texture, smooth finish, and archival quality. Free of optical brighteners, it delivers rich tones and a soft, timeless feel that allows the image to truly stand out.

Small prints feature a one-inch white border, while all larger sizes include a two-inch border, giving the image space to breathe and enhancing its presence once framed.

Mount & Sign

Each print is dry-mounted to acid-free foam board to ensure it stays perfectly flat—no warping, rippling, or air bubbles over time. Once mounted, every piece is hand-signed in the bottom right corner using an archival pen.

Our Frames

All frames are handcrafted from wood and available in three finishes: natural oak, white, or black. Each is designed in a modern shadow box style, with a subtle ¼–⅜ inch space between the print and the glass.

This matless presentation, paired with natural wood, creates a gallery-style look that feels both modern and timeless. Every framed piece arrives ready to hang, with hardware pre-attached.

Assembling the Frame

Conservation and longevity guide the final assembly. We use Conservation Clear glass to protect against UV damage and fading, along with spacers to ensure the print never touches the glass. This combination—dry mounting, spacers, and UV-protective glass—prevents the moisture and air issues often seen in traditional framing over time.

Each frame is sealed with a coroplast backing and finished with hanging hardware, ready for your wall. All you need is a hammer.
